Salt Lake City, UT — Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Dr. Joseph Featherall, who will officially join the Sports Medicine Division as a tenure-track Instructor on August 18, 2025. Dr. Featherall is an orthopaedic sports medicine specialist with a particular focus on pediatric and adolescent care.
A native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Dr. Featherall brings a rich academic and clinical background. He earned dual undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Philosophy from the Rochester Institute of Technology, completed his pre-medical studies at Columbia University, and received his medical degree from the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, where he also participated in the prestigious Medical Research Scholars Program at the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Featherall completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Utah and recently finished a sports medicine fellowship at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado.
His clinical expertise includes the treatment of knee, hip, and shoulder injuries, fracture and trauma care, with a strong commitment to helping young athletes return safely to their sports. He currently serves as a team physician for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team and is an active member of multiple national and international professional organizations. His research on growth plate-sparing knee surgery and hip arthroscopy has been widely presented and published.
