Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Orthopaedics

The University Of Utah Department Of Orthopaedics is proud to offer a summer research opportunity focused for one medical and one undergraduate student per year who come from a group traditionally underrepresented in orthopaedic surgery.

It is well known that the field of orthopaedic surgery has historically lacked diversity.  While some progress has been made, significant disparities continue to exist.  We believe that our providers and staff should be as diverse as the patients we serve and are committed to working toward that goal.

This summer research internship award includes a work stipend and housing. Awardees will also be paired with a faculty mentor with whom they will regularly meet throughout their internship while working alongside experienced orthopaedic surgeons and mentors on a research project with time shadowing in the clinic and the operating room.
