2018 Women in Academic Orthopaedics

The inaugural Women in Academic Orthopaedics internship has concluded. We are now looking forward to finding our 2019 intern candidate. By offering an internship for the first and second years of medical school, this program provides a deep look into the academic realm of orthopaedics. This glimpse will offer valuable insights which, we hope, will inspire more women to join the ranks of Academic Orthopaedic specialists across America.

In 2018, we had the pleasure of introducing Whitney Moss, BS to the complex processes involving orthopaedic research and treatment. Whitney spent her internship working with Kristen Carroll, MD at Shriners Hospital in Salt Lake City, working primarily with pediatric patients.

This program is a collaboration of the University of Utah’s Department of Orthopaedics and Office of Health Equity and Inclusion and the American Medical Women’s Association. Women medical students who have completed their first year of medical school in good standing and are interested in an in-depth orthopaedic surgery experience are encouraged to apply. Join us and work alongside experienced female and male orthopaedic surgeons and mentors in the clinic and the operating room. The experience calls for you to prepare and present a poster at a local and national meeting.
