Adaptive Sports Recreation Programs

TRAILS Program-adaptive sailing

The Salt Lake region offers several opportunities for fellows who are motivated to take extra initiative and get involved in adaptive sports and recreation. As official providers of the United States Olympic Committee, we receive referrals to evaluate Para athletes for injuries and illness.  Depending on the year and event schedules, we also cover World Cup Para bobsled, luge and climbing.  During the Salt Lake City marathon, you will see Para athletes, including those competing in the wheelchair division.  There are additional opportunities to work with athletes with a disability through the University of Utah TRAILS program (https://healthcare.utah.edu/neilsen-physical-rehab-hospital/support-services/trails), which offers a wide range of sports including skiing, road cycling, mountain biking, kayaking, sailing and more. There are also two local, community-based adaptive recreation programs including Wasatch Adaptive Sports (https://wasatchadaptivesports.org/) at Snowbird and the National Ability Center (https://discovernac.org/) in nearby Park City, both of which offer an impressive number of sports and recreational activities.  Finally, Salt Lake City has a wheelchair basketball program for recreational and highly competitive athletes (https://utahwheelinjazz.com/).
