Resident Rotation
While rotating here you will have 4 weeks of direct patient care and have responsibilities based on ability. Students will be pre-assigned to one of the following subspecialty blocks and spend two weeks on each:
- Joints/Foot & Ankle
- Pediatrics/Sports
- Trauma/Hand
- Spine/Tumor
Students will be expected to be involved directly in patient care and will be allocated responsibilities commensurate with their abilities.
Attendance at Grand Rounds, Core Curriculum, and Sub-Specialty Conferences is required.
Application Process
The UUSOM will begin accepting VSLO applications for visiting students for the upcoming academic year on or after April 10. The UUSOM also anticipates opening and processing applications in VSLO around May 1st with offers extended starting mid-May for rotations beginning on or after June 12th and through October 29th.

Opportunities Scholarship
The University of Utah Orthopaedic Surgery Residency is committed to honoring all backgrounds in Orthopaedic Surgery applicants, residents, faculty and patients alike. Three travel and lodging scholarships are available for the one-month MS4 Visiting Student rotation/Acting Internship. These scholarships are available to all eligible students granted an Acting Internship in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Utah as applied through the AAMC VSLO program.
The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial support to visiting 4th year students committed to opportunities and honoring varied experiences in Orthopaedic Surgery applicants.
Only completed AAMC VSLO Sub-Internship applications will be considered.
